VEGAN BREADED BUFFALO DIP

prep time: 10 minutes
cook time: 30 minutes

Or just eat it with a spoon.

This recipe requires you to cook some jackfruit, add some other stuff to it and then bake it.

First you’re going to prep your jackfruit.

What you’ll need:

  • jackfruit (60 oz, or three cans)

  • yellow onion

  • garlic

  • olive oil

  • beer (optional)

  • salt

  • pepper

  • garlic powder

  • onion powder

  • dried thyme

  • smoked paprika

  • cayenne

  • chili powder

  • frank’s

Open your three cans of jackfruit. Add the contents to a strainer and rinse off throughly. If you have gloves, put them on. Get your hands all up in the jackfruit and break/shred it up.

You can eat a few, go for it. But just a few.

Before.

After. Kind of.

Transfer your jackfruit into a bowl without holes in it. Remove the seeds from your shredded jackfruit if you want. They don’t bother me.

Now add about a tablespoon and a half of each of the aforementioned seasonings to your jackfruit. Except the cayenne, add two and a half tablespoons of that.

Taste for seasoning.

Now you’re gonna get this show on the road. Dice up one yellow onion and mince down three cloves of garlic. Or…less if you’re into that.

Get out your frying pan and add a big glug of olive oil and bring the flame up to medium. Add your onion and let it sweat for a minute. You’re only gonna want slight browning on your onion. Add the minced garlic into the mix and then throw a pinch of salt in there.

Mise!

Like this.

Now that you have a nice smelling mixture in your pan, add your jackfruit into the mix. I used a big pan so I could cook all the jackfruit at once. Cook the jackfruit in batches if you don’t have an obnoxious pan.

Add a little beer into the onions and cook that out if you want.

And again, remove the seeds if you want. I like em but that’s just me.

Cook the jackfruit completely and stir occasionally so everything is evenly cooked. Add some frank’s hot sauce into the pan and stir it up. Do that again like three more times.

Two more times!

Two more times!

Next up, you’re gonna start adding stuff to your jackfruit now.

What you’ll need:

  • vegan cream cheese

  • vegan sour cream

  • vegan ranch

  • vegan shredded cheese

  • more frank’s

  • green onion

  • bread crumbs

  • whatever else you wanna add (optional)

Add 8 oz of cream cheese to your jackfruit and start to mix that up. Once it’s kinda mixed up, add 3 oz of the sour cream.

Stir it up!

Stir it up!

Add a nice dollop of your vegan ranch into the mix. Add a good fistful of vegan cheese into the pan and mix that up too. Now you have something like this:

Look how beautiful and cohesive your sauce is now.

Taste for seasoning.

Turn your oven on and set it to 350°. Dice up some green onion.

Get your jackfruit mixture and scrape it into an oven-safe casserole dish.

Beautiful.

Beautiful.

Toss a nice extra glug of frank’s on top of your mixture.

Add more if you want.

Add more if you want.

Next add a thin layer of breadcrumbs.

Add cayenne here if you want too. Or whatever else you want? Olives? I mean you’re the only one eating this.

Pop your casserole dish in the oven for fifteen minutes. Keep a close eye on it. After that 15 minutes, hit the broiler for right around two minutes to crisp up the breadcrumbs. Just keep an eye on it so you don’t ruin it.

I burnt it a little bit but it’s cool.

Add green onion up top and serve with crostini, celery, crackers, a spoon, tortillas, bread, whatever you want.
