The Vegan Sloppy Joe. I don't know what to say about this sandwich. You can put potato chips on it!

THE VEGAN SLOPPY JOE

Did I mention you can put potato chips on it?

This recipe requires you defrost some plant based protein and cook it with ketchup, tomato paste, worcestershire and some seasonings. And then put it on a bun. And add potato chips if you want.

To start, get your vegetables and “ground beef” ready. I used beyond burger.

What you’ll need:

  • white onion

  • green pepper

  • olive oil

  • beyond burger (or whatever else)

  • ketchup

  • tomato paste

  • worcestershire

  • salt

  • pepper

  • brown sugar

  • smoked paprika

  • garlic powder

  • hamburger buns

  • potato chips (optional)

Dice up a green pepper into very small chunks, not too fine. Then dice up half a white onion in the same fashion. Make sure your beyond burger is defrosted. I used both for this recipe.

The white spots are marbling I guess. Not mold. I looked it up and the internet doesn’t lie.

Toss some oil in a pan, bring the flame up to medium-low and crumble your meat stuff into half of the pan. Then toss the green pepper and onion in the other half of the pan. Add salt and pepper. Add a tablespoon of smoked paprika. Add a tablespoon of garlic powder.

Bring the flame up a little bit and start stirring everything up. Once everything starts to brown a little bit, add a nice splash of worcestershire, a tablespoon of tomato paste and one big ol’ squirt of ketchup. Yes, ketchup. Now throw two and a half tablespoons of brown sugar in there and keep stirring it up. Mash up the ground a little bit more if needed. Sometimes the beyond burger can clump up when it misbehaves.

Let it cook a little bit and everything will turn a nice, deep brown color.

Next, put as much of this brown mess on a hamburger bun as you can possibly fit. Also, add potato chips if you want.

I guess you can dice the green pepper and onion finer. But I like the chunks.
